Some Christmas time Rock Band!

So much to post, so much to say! I'll start with updates.

London: Not doing so well in school. Dropped French for next semester, because he failed it for the semester with a 56. He failed last year as well, so it's not look well. He will pick up study skills, and then will start with Spanish next semester. It gets worse- He failed 5 classes for the nine weeks and had a 78 in English. He passed Biology, which was just a recovery class from failing last year. They didn't even put it on his report card. Geometry came out with a 67 for the semester, but he could still pull it off for the year. He at least passed the other classes for the semester. And, because he did so much better the first nine weeks, he has several B's for the semester. Needless to say, he'll be going in to tutoring for something every morning and afternoon for the rest of the year. He's allowed his fun during Christmas break- but when school starts back, he's on lock down. Of course, he'll not be taking drivers ed this semester either. IF he passes everything next semester, we'll allow him to take it during the summer. If not, he won't have a chance until next spring, after he proves his grades in the fall.

On another note- London has a girlfriend. Brenda. Perhaps the cause of the decline in grades? She's a Senior, really sweet girl, and probably a good influence on him. Although, he spends an awful lot of time on the phone with her, so in addition to locking his TV, we'll be confiscating his phone daily. They only see each other at school, haven't even seen each other over break yet. She doesn't have a licence, and has strict parents, which I am perfectly fine with. He'll be spending the rest of his break locked in his room I'm sure, since his Christmas gift from the grandparents and us, was a new super powered CPU! It was a complete surprise to London and such an awesome computer, we got for a great deal! Enjoy it while you can, London!

Jeff: Still slaving away at Godiva. Retail at a mall- during Christmas: uuuhhhhh. Yeah, enough said. It's made for a jolly Christmas however! Can anyone say fudge made with Godiva chocolate???? So, Jeff is still in school. This is absolutely his last semester however, and I can't wait until he graduates! His co-workers/employees/friends gave him a Turtle Beach gaming headset for Christmas, which I believe is really a present more for me! Soooo glad I don't have to listed to machine guns for hours on end any longer! His boss gave him gift cards to the On the Border/Macaroni Grill chain, so, date night soon! I gave him a great big new roasting pan which we tried out on Christmas morning. He'll have his dream kitchen soon enough. Seriously, if you ever need a gift idea for Jeff- kitchen stuff! He's really loves to cook and bake. Good thing too, because he's fabulous at it!

Leanne: Well, there's not much to talk about in my life, since my life is school right now. I pretty much eat, sleep, and breathe school. Things have been going well. I'm not working as many hours and it's getting easier every day. It is a lot of work though, and I am still working quite a few 12+ hour days to get everything done. I am really thinking I would love to move in to Gen Ed. middle school math. I do love teaching Special Education, and I love my school and administration. Most of all, I am grateful for any job right now. I'm just exhausted. Oh, and fat. I'm a stress eater. Needless to say, I've gained back about half the weight I lost. I have my work cut out for me to get it back off. I'll be counting calories again, starting... uh, tomorrow. I'll also be going to the thrift store this week, to try and buy some pants that fit me. I'm loving being on Christmas break. I've done a whole lot of nothing, shopping, and cleaning the house. My house has never looked better. The fun is almost over however, and the week flew by! One more lazy day today, and then I have to start getting ready for the upcoming semester. I have some lesson plans to write, visual schedules to make, and STAAR Alt assessments to create. The last part is the doozy. I was going to start today, but I've got a kitchen full of dishes, and a lunch date with the in-laws- one last visit with Josh and Stephanie, before they head back to Austin. Which brings me to the family update.

Family: Had a great time Christmas Eve at the in-laws for the traditional Chicken Fried Steak Christmas Eve dinner. Delicious. Stephanie made home-made Sangria that she brought for us to enjoy. It was to die for! On Jeff's side of the family we open all the presents on Christmas Eve, and since we were not all together in the morning, we opened stockings too! Great fun. (Oh, and Jeff's present to me was a sterling silver butterfly necklace that I've wanted). Then, we had my folks, my brother and his wife and daughter, Jeff's folks, his brother and fiance, over for Christmas Day dinner at our house. You know I love to entertain. Ham dinner with all the fixings, including made form scratch macaroni-and-cheese, that I (not Jeff) made. I also made a peppermint cake, which I must say turned out fantastically (see pictures to come). We did a white elephant style present exchange, which was fun, and funny. Everyone got exactly what they wanted (except Josh and Stephanie), and no one wanted to steal presents! I forgot to take pictures until the very end, when Josh and Stephanie stayed late to play Rock Band with us! All-in-all, it was a fun 2 days!

So, now we have spring to look forward to. Planning a weekend in Austin during march, and a trip to Florida in July. I'm hoping the whole family will come down to Texas this summer again. I'm already tired of the winter, and ready for the summer. Of course, that may have to do with the 2+ months I'll be off of work!  But, really, I'm ready for the sun again. I believe my in-laws will be moving out of their house before summer, so we'll have to go sign up with a membership at the public pool! Guess I won't be floating on the pool with a cocktail in my hand anymore though. That is, until we're ready to buy a house of our own of course- but that won't be until next summer, I'm sure. We re-arranged the furniture to fit a second table in to feed everyone yesterday, and I think we'll be leaving it this way. Our living room is twice as big! See if you notice the difference in the pictures I will post.

Well, that pretty much sums up the goings on of the Campbell's. I'll try to post more often this spring, now that I've got everything under control, I should have a sliver more free time.

Ugh, I've gained ten pounds. I'm a stress eater, and I definitely have been stressed. My teaching assignment is a tough one. I'm procrastinating as I type. I should be working on my lesson plans for next week. Especially since, the school building will only be open for 2 more hours today if I need to run up there.

I've been super busy, so I don't have any updates. I could go on an on about work, but I'll spare you.

Working between 60-80 hours a week, 7 days a week, and I'm sure I will be for a while.

I'll update if anything interesting happens.

What a great surprise!

I came home to find this waiting for me today. My card was in an envelop that said "Mrs. C", and a hand written message inside for me.

London's cool hair cut....

Before he made us cut it all off again.....

Gainfully employed and completely exhausted.

For those who don't know, two weeks ago I was hired as a Special Education Math Teacher at a Middle School! I'm teaching students on a cognitive level of 3rd grade and below. It's been a challenging week since school started, and I'm working about 12 hour days. It's hard work, because it's three grade levels and multiple skill levels in each class! I'm learning a lot and I'm loving every exhaustive, stressful moment of it! Today the curriculum specialists from district came and met with me. It was a great ego boost and relieved a lot of the stress. They complimented my knowledge and performance, and said that I was going to be a great asset for the school!

Wow, how time flies....

Right on time- one month later! Had a great weekend in Austin last weekend. We didn't take many pictures, but I will post the ones we did. I've been very lazy lately. It's been so hot. Mostly I've just been sending out resumes daily. I've had several interviews, but no job offers. I have an interview for a Third Grade Teacher on Monday. Say some prayers for me. Jeff is also up for store manager at another Godiva location. So, say some prayers for that as well. I can't believe summer is almost over. I'm going to make the most of the next several weeks.

Month one of summer coming to a close....

This is supposed to be Soup du Jour not Soup du Mois!!!! Well, I update when I'm procrastinating it seems. I have been off since noon, and accomplished absolutely nothing. I'm working part-time at Huntington Learning Center now, tutoring. It's not much money, but it's something for the resume. Since noon, I've watched a movie, caught up on my websites and forums, priced hotels for Austin, and not much else. I need to work on my portfolio, and I needed to go to Staples to have another copy of my portfolio printed out, but neither has been completed.

I need to get my portfolio ready, and resumes printed, because I have a job interview on Thursday with Plano ISD for a High School Resource Teacher. It is my 3rd interview so far. I interviewed at a middle school in Plano and an elementary school in Richardson, both also for Special Education positions. I'm also taking my Pedagogy and Professional Development (PPR) exam on Friday. I was supposed to take it last week, but, it was rescheduled due to a power outage! This test is so that I can get a standard Texas teaching license. Right now, I have a Texas One Year certificate, because my school was out of state. My standard certificates are in Utah.

I've started a new project in the yard. I'm digging up all the rocks around the pond. I'm tired of weeds growing through them! I'll be putting down weed killer and a new root barrier and then replacing the rocks. In addition, the large pond is leaking AGAIN, and we'll have to get the landlord to fix this, after he fixes the gate AGAIN. I'm pretty sure there is just one giant ant pile under the pond, and the dirt is so soft now that the stones are shifting.

I'm back to counting calories and I've lost 6 pounds in 2 weeks. Thank god, because I got off track and got back up there. Then, I saw the picture I posted, and an even worse one, which put the fire back in me. I cannot ever look like that again! I don't even recognize myself in those pictures. Jeff is still doing well also.

We're going to Austin in July. It's Stephanie's (and Jamie's) birthday and Josh is throwing a birthday party. We're contemplating floating the river while we are down that way, but no plans are definite. I'd like to loose 10 more pounds before we go down there... especially since the diet will be off while on vaca!

I'm going to get off of here and try and force myself to do some work. I think I'll go work in the yard for a bit, and then get my portfolio in order and write a letter of intent. Tomorrow I only work 2 hours!!! Then its out to Carrollton to pick up my MK order and visit Jeff at Stonebriar.... and I just had a thought to call a friend to see about a lunch! All in all, this has been a great summer. Lots of time off and I've tried to let myself enjoy it, and for the most part, be productive. However, I have not accomplished anything on my summer goal list. Hopefully July will be the month for me!

The beginning of our weight loss journey....

When I compare this picture to our most recent one (profile pic), I'm in awe of how different we both look now. NEVER AGAIN!!!!!

35th Birthday at Dodie's Place

When did summer get here?

So much for posting more often. I haven't updated in three months, expect for a picture of my new hair cut in April. I have no excuse other than being in a big ol' rut. Seriously, I've not had any motivation to do anything. I have a TON to do, and could totally be working on my Mary Kay business that I am once again neglecting. I'm so glad summer is here and that we are CUTTING OFF OUR CABLE! We're doing it for financial reasons, but hopefully that will get us up off our rears and moving. I can feel my brain cells dying. Of course, right now I've gone and gotten myself sick, so I'm perfectly content to sit here on the couch doing nothing. Hopefully I'll muster the energy to finally get my lesson plans onto my digital portfolio- then I can add it to my resume and send some more out to principals today. There are a few jobs in Wylie available, so I need to get on this quick.

I'm on the hunt for summer employment. I really need to find a summer only job, because even if I don't secure a teaching contract this fall, I need to be subbing and in the principals sight. I've been applying for daycare, nanny, and tutoring positions, but so far I've only had one interview. I plan on going out this week if I'm not subbing, and collecting some retail applications. I'm certainly going to enjoy the time off that I do have. I plan on being very productive. My summer goals are:

* Work out daily
* Working in the yard regularly
* Spend at least ten hours a week working my Mary Kay business
* Read a book
* Paint my kitchen
* Loose 30 pounds
* Spend time with at least 1 friend every week

I think these are highly attainable goals. All it takes is a little energy and effort on my part. I have got to get rid of this lazy bug.

Am I old enough to have a child who is a Sophmore in High School?????

London is officially registered for his Sophmore year of high school! God, I feel old. He's taking English II, World History, Geometry, Chemistry, French II, Art II: Sculpture, Audio/Video Production, and Swimming (not swimming team). That's assuming of course that he gets his first choice classes. I think he'll have a good year. He'll be leaving the Freshman Center and moving on to the mammoth Allen High School. Over 3,000 students under one roof with a (small) Collin County College campus on site! He'll be taking dual credit courses his Junior and Senior year of high school!

A One Month Re-cap.

Sitting here on a Saturday night bored out of my skull. Of course I could easily eliminate that boredom by doing something productive, like cleaning, or putting together our new china cabinet, or entering my inventory into Pink Office finally. But, still, I sit here on the couch, bored. Then again, I think boredom is a little under-rated. Its nice to relax and do nothing. Watching Palladia at the moment, kicked back with Facebook up, and a riveting game of Words With Friends- with my husband who's sitting in the same room- hmmmm. I am enjoying a nice class of my favorite Chianti, and I think I'm going to suggest a movie. Comedy of course.

Its been a month since I started tutoring at the middle school. I AM LOVING IT. Its very rewarding. But, also exhausting. I'm tutoring 8 periods a day, 3 days a week, and I am beat by the end of the day. But, its also a phenomenal feeling to know I'm helping students every day.  I've done a bit of subbing as well. Friday I had the opportunity, for the first time since graduating, to teach at an elementary school. I subbed resource at K-3 at one school in the morning, and then went to another for FAC, which is an self contained classroom for moderate to severe disabilities. I discovered two things. One- that I do not want my moderate-severe endorsement. Two- that I belong in an elementary resource room. Well, I already knew the second, but it was indeed confirmed. I know that I can't be choosy now though, with the state of education. I'll take what I can get, and I will enjoy it. But, I know if I don't find resource elementary to start, I will be looking forward to it until I do. If I can't be in an elementary room, I hope I end up at my middle school. Referring to the one at which I  am currently tutoring, and where I did my second stint of student teaching. The kids and staff are wonderful, and I already feel so at home.

In other news- I haven't lost any more weight, but, I haven't been trying. I'm hoping to get my motivation back soon. Jeff has been doing great and is looking great. I'm so proud of him. I'm looking forward to the start of summer. I'm ready to get active again!

London is not doing so well in school these days. We had an ARD meeting and he will be given a Section 504 plan. That means he needs a little bit of support at school, but we're hoping its enough to help, without putting him back in Special Education. He's definitely struggling to keep up with the demands of high school. Boy he's growing up. He's not my little boy anymore. He's all teenager. But, he's a good kid, and trying hard to get his grades up. He's decided to forgo extra-curricular activities so that he can concentrate on this classes.  He still wants to be a Police Officer and still wants to go to Sam Houston State or A&M.

My Mary Kay business is doing great! I added a new team member. She's wonderful! Registered for Career conference in April and I'm ready for our Cadillac walk across the stage! Two more days and I'll know if I'm going as a Senior Consultant or a Red Jacket!

Okay, I think that's all I have to update for now. I'll try to post more often.

The Board of Trustees of Western Governors University, upon the recommendation of the faculty, has conferred upon Leanne Tahirih Campbell the degree of Bachelor of Arts Special Education

That's what it says on the piece of paper that arrived in the mail today! I'm finally done. Well, that's not entirely true. We're never really done are we? I am still waiting on my teaching certification to process for Utah. Then, I have to go through the lengthy process of transferring it to Texas, and will still have to take the Texas certification exam. Then, I have try and find a permanent teaching position. I however, am employed, as of today. I was hired on as a part-time tutor with my kiddos I just left at the middle school. I'll sub the other two days per week. I'm so excited to start my new career tomorrow morning!
